I spent some time between graduate degrees as a planner and environmental consultant. After Colorado, I was on the faculty at Binghamton University where I was part of the Geography Department and the Environmental Studies Program. I joined the ECU Department of Geography in 2009, where I currently serve as Chair.  I have been fortunate in that my research has taken me to various places in the United States as well as to New Zealand, Italy, and Slovenia. I enjoy interdisciplinary research and the opportunity to work with colleagues in different departments.   My students are currently working on projects addressing coastal planning and vulnerability, the vulnerability of migrant farm workers, and the use of weather information by various emergency managers.
