Project Abstract

The speed of scientific and technological advances, along with resource constraints makes it very difficult for academic institutions to maintain technical currency in instructional labs.  In this project, we explore how to leverage virtualization and cloud computing technologies to bridge the digital divide between schools and between countries. The goal of the project is for students to engage in active, hands-on learning from any location, at any time, through our creation of a secure, stable, and scalable remote lab learning environment.

What will you put in place?

HP ProLiant Servers

Cloud Computing Technologies-Virtual Computing Lab and VMware vCenter Lab Manager

Custom, Remotely Accessible Virtual Environments

Hand-on Lab Manuals

Assessment and Survey Tools

Key Outcomes and Evidence

Virtual lab infrastructures including Virtual Computing Lab and VMware Lab Manager will be set up with HP ProLiant servers for students to use.

Multiple custom virtual environments for hands-on information technology education will be made available to consortium members and other educational institutions.

Results from suitability and usefulness surveys completed by lab users, and self-assessment audits will be presented.
