About Me

I joined the faculty at East Carolina University in the Fall of 2006 in the department of Geography. I am an assistant professor who teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes in Environmental Geography, Hydrology and Atmospheric Science, and my research interests are in statistical hydroclimatology, environmental modeling, and understanding integrated human –water systems.

Teaching

I teach courses in both natural and social science, in atmospheric science and environmental geography. I enjoy teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and am dedicated to providing an active and supportive learning environment for all students.

Courses Taught  (check ECU’s course schedule for the current semester)

GEOG 1250 The Water Planet (ECU foundations Social Science course)

GEOG 1300 Weather and Climate (ECU foundations Natural Science course)

GEOG 3230 Global Climates

GEOG 3510 Physical Meteorology

GEOG 3550 Synoptic Meteorology

GEOG 4570/6570 Hydrometeorology

Research

Current CV

My research background is in surface hydrology and statistical and analytical modeling, and my current research focuses on understanding and creating statistical metrics of climate and hydrologic systems to inform hydrologic modeling and water resource planning, and on more fully integrating humans into environmental and hydrologic modeling frameworks.

One aspect of my research is in understanding human-water interactions on a regional scale, and particularly, how to provide useful hydrologic and climate information for water resource decision making, through my collaboration on an NSF-funded project Humans Transforming the Water Cycle , organized by the CUNY Environmental Cross Roads Initiative under Dr. Charlie Vorosmarty.

Another aspect of my research is observational and statistical analyses of hydrologic and climate data in order to detect and attribute changes or trends, including attributing changes in seasonality of streamflow in human-altered river systems.

Memberships ,Activities, and Links

In addition to my research and teaching at East Carolina, I am an involved and active member in professional organizations, and environmental and educational initiatives. I encourage you to explore these links to learn more about hydrology, atmospheric science, and environmental geography.
